Blah diddy blah diddy blah blah

Thanks for the kind comments on my (belated) first anniversary post. How did TCB respond? He sent me a flippant email containing his advice to men on how to have a happy marriage. *hrmpf*

Anyway, after Googling "divorce lawyers, San Diego", I got on with the business of filing our first tax return as a Married Filing Joint couple. Yes, I was one of the millions who waited until yesterday to finish our taxes! TCB had already put his information into an online tax preparation tool and mailed me the login info, so I just had to get in there and add my information. Didn't take long and I knew it wouldn't, but I knew we were going to owe money, so I wasn't in a rush. Turns out that we're GETTING MONEY BACK from both the IRS and California - whoopiee! I pushed the efile button yesterday at about 1:30 p.m. Pacific and now I'm hitting the refresh button on my bank's website, waiting for the direct deposits to go through. (Ha, it's really more like 2 weeks, but close enough.) I felt so happy and unexpectedly rich that I decided to contribute to the optional charitable donations on the California return - Child Abuse Prevention, Military Family Relief, and Sea Otter Conservation each got $33 from our family. (You can turn around and deduct that next year, too...bonuses for me and for the cute little sea critters!)

TCB thinks we ought to go to Las Vegas while he's home on leave. He's found a deal that would have us staying in a 5-star resort on the Strip for $156/night, including taxes, and that's nothing to sneeze at. If we went to a really cool show, we'd be spending about $1,000* total for airfare (I won't drive there again...don't want to have to call that divorce lawyer), two nights hotel, and two tickets to a blockbuster show on the Strip. I know it sounds like a lot (and it is), it's just that we never took a honeymoon and this might be the only trip home he makes until he's home for good in June 2009. Is it crazy to spend that much? Talk amongst yourselves and be sure to share with me via comments what you think.

* Important to note that my half-day package at the hotel day spa is NOT included in that price!

Denise,

You and TCB are totally worth it! Go for it...but don't forget to add at least one spa treatment!

My home is my sanctuary. I put a fair amount of effort in maintaining the serenity. Were I to have only so many days to spend with my SO, I can't think of a place I would rather spend that time then at home. You have a new home! I don't get it. Why would you go anywhere else? Am I missing something here?

My vote: GO! Enjoy a couple days away from the day to day and relax with TCB.

And seriously, stop googling lawyers *LOL* if you ever need one (and you won't), I'll give you a referral (for a lawyer other than a family/divorce *LOL*)

I say as long as your other money needs are in order, spend it on the trip. But don't do it if you are going to feel guilty about it. That kinda takes the fun out of it.....

Spa days are totally worth it, no matter what the real cost is...

This should be a honeymoon trip - and what happens in Vegas needs to be blogged about!

I've done both; wedding with no honeymoon and (20+years later) another wedding with. DEFINITELY TAKE THE BELATED HONEYMOON. And make sure TCB knows it's the honeymoon. You'll have memories for a lifetime.
