Walk, walk, walk

Saturday morning. I did 40 minutes of intervals on the treadmill last night (some hills, some sprints) and felt good. This morning I woke up and went for a five mile walk in 90 minutes. I iced my feet after both walks in hopes of staving off any achilles problems and it seems to be working so far. This afternoon, the other CASA and I will be taking Alcott and his youngest brother to the county fair and will probably walk several miles through all of the exhibits, rides, and junk food. Nothing like going from total lack of any activity to walking ten miles in one weekend. Moderation? No thanks, I'd prefer heel spurs!

Oh, and I signed up for the West Coast Road Runners' fall marathon training program to prepare me for the Las Vegas Marathon in December. Before you ask, no, I won't be running it, just walking, but it's still 26.2 miles of fun, so I need proper training. Color me serious about following through and finishing folks, because this is something I've wanted for a very long time, I've already paid the entrance fee, and it's time to see what I can do with that much training. Anyone want to join me???

My goodness, that's so exciting! I can't wait to hear all about your training! And you're clearly off to a good start, with this weekend.

Regards the post below--can you contest the fee with the stupid contractor? Seems like if you hired them to do a certain amount, and they didn't get any of it done, you shouldn't have to pay... But then, I've never owned a house, so I don't really know how these things work.

But three cheers for TCB to the rescue!

Woo hoo! The marathon is an awesome accomplishment, whether you run it or walk it. Can't wait to hear about your training. Not that I want to be a downer, but I wouldn't plan to lose any weight during training: marathon training wreaks havoc on your appetite and you'll be good to just be able to maintain your weight. At least that was my experience.

a frozen water bottle works great for icing. You can roll your feet over it...

That is so cool that you are going to participate in the Las Vegas Marathon in December. I have always wanted to do something like that but have never been brave enough to actually do it. That is awesome!

Woohoo...congrats on joining a marathon program! Let us know what you learn! Right now, I'm preparing for the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October with Prevention magazine. I'm a little spooked by the distance but excited! We can do this!!

OK we will have to talk about the West Coast running training thing. That looks very interesting. I am half assed training for a half marathon in October, but I would love to really push that.
You are going to do awesome! TCB sounds awesome! Did he come over? Did you think of a way to repay him. A really good dinner always works for me. You can even do it healthy like....

Smiles :)

Hi Denise,

First-time commenter. A marathon! That is great. It will be great motivation, too. I committed to a sprint triathlon which is now less than two weeks away! Yikes. I'm nervous but that commitment, which I have made very public, has been great motivation. Good for you! I'm sure you will be fabulous and get even stronger as you train.
